The Chymick-stone

*
The secrets of the stone may not be revealed to the profane.

The slate, bones and other matter have been adhered to a background of black enamel. The beveled frame has been painted an iridescent vermeil and protectively surrounds the elements of the work. The entire piece has been highly varnished and measures 9.5 inches high by 7.5 inches wide and is ready to hang.

The back has been titled, signed and dated by the artist and includes the poem, The Chymick-stone.

When the Red King checks the White
and the stars align:
angels rise up and fall,
rise and fall again.
In falling rise,
and rising fall
'til the Red King is checked by the Queen.

When the vilest substance ablates
and purity remains:
the snake consumes its face,
the hen cracks the egg.
It rises, falls,
and rises again
'til the Red King and White Queen unite.
