on memory

* Because time is a product of space, memory is partially activated by the use of objects which exist in space. While some things are better off forgotten, others are best remembered and it is these things I attempt to bring to mind through the use of primarily found objects, be they bone or a scrap of metal or paper I have lying around the house. Recycling serves many purposes; one of the most overlooked is that it is one method of keeping memory alive. Bones, of course, contain within them the molecular memory of the being who once housed them. I do not purchase replicas, I use only bones left in the wilds, on the beaches or beside the roads, for these are where living memory resides.

* Memory is a living thing, it is as much of a spiritual force as is any ghost. Memory ties into what has become one of humanity's most important quests - the quest to find ourselves. We go on massive expeditions, spend years searching, reading, and experiencing everything we can in order to find our center, our will, our being. Well, I am here to tell you, we are not lost at all. Look in a mirror - you are right there. It is simply a question of remembering who you are. It is my hope that through my art and stories, I can help a little bit with this.
