The Phoenix Falls

*
The beauty of this piece is in the simplicity of its lines. The bones unfold like wings and lie atop a pressed, purple morning glory through whose petals the black enamel of the background bleeds. The detail reveals the creases and folds of the flower and the glossy sheen of the water-stained bones.

The entire piece has been highly varnished and its elements carefully adhered to a wood panel. The work is shown larger than its original size. It measures 4" by 4" and includes the story, The Phoenix Falls on the back, which has been signed and dated by the artist.

The back has been titled, signed and dated by the artist and includes her story, The Phoenix Falls.

Ever-bird: awash in gold and orange, burning bright as a star, rising like the sun rises over the mountain spires. Your soft vanes tickle my face; below us in the darkness lies the weeping world. Your wings span forever, until that flaming day when all the feathers spark and shoot hot ash into the air. How far above it all we were when in one sizzling second those tendrils of fire burst out from your eyes and we fell, spiraling down, into the dark house of your nest where we waited, counting breathless seconds, to be reborn.
