Roses in Love

*
Inspired by the fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty, this piece is about the roses that entwine themselves around her castle as she rests and waits. One rosebud has been affixed to golden slate, which covers the gold and black arabesque painted over a background of green. Two white bones signify the gate through which the errant prince must pass to reach his goal, but all around are the thorns that strive to block his way.

The entire piece has been highly varnished to protect the delicate elements of the work. It measures 4 inches high by 4 inches wide and is ready to hang.

In the details are the thorns and arabesques that decorate the background of the work.

The back has been titled, signed and dated by the artist and includes the story, Roses in Love.

See how my briars wrap around the bone-white gate? A tangle of hedge and thorn, deep and wide, has barred the way to where she rests in splendors rotting all around her. Can you smell the roses? Even in her sleep she reeks of them, she breathes in and out their odor and it claims her, just as my vines will claim you. My thorns, so sharp and reaching, will snare you on their points and you will ripen in the sun. No prince has ever breached these crumbling walls, nor trod the marble hallways to my beauty's chamber. O Prince, you may not pass, for only I will wake her with a brush of my soft petals on her lips.
